Anonymous posters, whether trolling or in seriousness, criticised the event for being racist and sexist due to white men being excluded, despite everyone being welcome to attend. Unsurprisingly, with the rise of the Facebook page ‘ExeHonestly’, in which Exeter students can anonymously post their opinions without fear of public condemnation, people began their vitriolic onslaught against the event. It will be a night to celebrate the poetry of women and non-binary people of colour, giving a platform to under-represented voices in order to create a dialogue of progression. The poetry event in question is the annual Women of Colour Poetry Night held by Exeter’s Feminist Society, in collaboration with the Creative Writing Society and the African-Caribbean Society, to be held on 6 March. As marginalised groups are finally being given an exclusive platform to express their views, outrage ensued due to white men’s entitlement to a space in which oppression has never affected them. In contrast, the “anon” of today would rather, ironically, demonise a poetry night whose performers are exclusively women and non-binary people of colour. VIRGINIA Woolf famously said that “anon, who wrote so many poems without signing them, was often a woman”. Here is a quick description and cover image of book Wife by Wednesday (The Weekday Brides, #1) written by Catherine Bybee which was published in October 4, 2011. Brief Summary of Book: Wife by Wednesday (The Weekday Brides, #1) by Catherine Bybee Happiness, according to Neill, means being interested in life or as I would put it, responding to life not just with one’s brain but with one’s whole personality. The aim of education-in fact the aim of life-is to work joyfully and to find happiness. Neill maintains a firm faith “in the goodness of the child.” He believes that the average child is not born a cripple, a coward, or a soulless automaton, but has full potentialities to love life and to be interested in life. The author contends that “freedom works.” The principles underlying Neill’s system are presented in this book simply and unequivocally. Summerhill does not expound a theory it relates the actual experience of almost 40 years. In Summerhill School authority does not mask a system of manipulation. In my opinion, his book is of great importance because it represents the true principle of education without fear. Neill’s system is a radical approach to child rearing. Her mother, meanwhile, has sold her house and all its possessions-with the exception of Clara’s childhood books-and moved into a nursing home. When she learns that her mother has been diagnosed with dementia, she moves from Florida back to the Adirondacks, where she grew up. A luminous novel about a daughter who attempts to make peace with her mother, who's been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease McGhee revisits characters from Shadow Baby (2000).Ĭlara Winter, a preteen in the earlier book, is now in her early 30s, making a meager living writing eulogies or wedding tributes for $100 a pop. Vera is a great character and even though I do like Brenda Blethyn’s portrayal of her in the TV series, I prefer her as she is in the books – a woman in her fifties, who looks like a bag lady. There is a full cast of characters, all clearly distinct, and a very intricate and clever plot, with plenty of red herrings subtly masking the important clues. Then Grace is found dead and the mystery really begins. I was so drawn in by the character portraits and the vivid descriptions of the setting, that I almost forgot that this is a murder mystery. When Rachael arrives at the cottage she is confronted by the body of her friend Bella Furness, who it appears has committed suicide. It begins with chapters about three of the female characters, Rachael, Anne and Grace all staying at Baikie’s an isolated cottage on the North Pennines whilst they carry out an environmental survey. I’ve been thinking (and writing) about my difficulties in reading books where I think the detail and description swamp the characters and plot, but I had absolutely no problems with that in The Crow Trap – I think Ann Cleeves has got the balance just right. The Crow Trap by Ann Cleeves is the first book in her Vera Stanhope series. I love Chelsea Flower Show, I ʼ ve been going for over 30 years, and I thought, I would love to create a garden of my own one year. I knew that this year would be the 70th anniversary of Windrush, so two years ago I started planning. I can ʼ t tell you how excited I was to have a garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show with Birmingham City Council. I ʼ ve even thought, wouldn ʼ t it be lovely to buy one of those rooms on a big cruise ship – if I won the Lottery, that ʼ s what I ʼ d do. New Zealand is high on my list of places to travel next, and I ʼ ve never been to Australia either. I think one of the best ways to explore Norway is by ship. One of my favourite cruises was to Norway to see the magnificent Fjords. And you get to meet people from all walks of life on a cruise. I love water, I love beauty, I love serenity, I love nature. There ʼ s a 90-day cruise going through the Panama Canal, then all the way down along the west coast of South America, down to the Antarctic and then all the way up again. I would love to do a cruise to the Antarctic. I ʼ ve got so many cruise brochures at home and I go on the internet to research cruises.
